Studies in Pen Art, 1914

Posted by Alix on 25 October 2008

Via Drawn! – some ridiculously ornate flourishes and other typographic work by William E Dennis from Studies in Pen Art, published in 1914 (more here). People really did make their own fun pre-telly, didn’t they?

An interesting publication. Makes me feel inadequate in my penmanship although I can blame a broken arm in the 2nd grade.

Note that in the late 19th/early 20th century there was great interest in art & artistic skills that coincided with the proliferation of illustrated magazines & newspapers & growth in industry.
